Donnie Rhett Koonce - Charlotte Ophthalmic Professional and Researcher
An ophthalmic assistant with Charlotte Eye Ear Nose & Throat Associates, PA, Donnie Rhett Koonce focuses on patient-centered eye screenings. He also audits the full range of surgeries performed by ophthalmologists at his firm. In addition, with advanced data analysis as a foundation, Donnie Rhett Koonce provides assistance in retinal disease research. His work has contributed to the data used in a pair of academic papers currently under submission for publication.
Volunteer work has been central to Mr. Koonce’s life for many years, and he actively mentors minority males. While earning his master’s degree in Winston-Salem at Wake Forest University, he performed glaucoma screenings at a clinic that provides no-cost care to patients with limited means. He also volunteered with minority students as a tutor at an elementary school in the local community.
Mr. Koonce’s accomplishments as a graduate student include serving as president of the Minority Association of Premedical Students. He also undertook research on the relationship between cardiovascular disease and diabetes among men and women. Drawing on an extensive background in music, he enjoys playing the piano and drums in his free time.
